Places to visit within walking distance, or accessible through free public transportation:
- Temple Square - Downtown Salt Lake City is centered around the historic LDS Salt Lake Temple and the grounds surrounding it. Open to visitors 9AM - 9PM. Admission is free. 5 blocks north of conference venue.
- The Leonardo - Salt Lake's museum devoted to the spirit of Leonardo da Vinci featuring exhibits on science, technology, engineering, and learning. Open 10AM - 5PM Sat - Wed, 10AM - 10PM Thur and Fri. Admission is $45. 2-3 blocks from conference venue.
- City Creek Center - Downtown Salt Lake City's newest center for shopping and dining. 5 blocks north of conference venue.
- The Gateway - Dining, shopping and attractions. 6-7 blocks from conference venue.
- Clarke Planetarium - Located in the Gateway Center. Features star shows, public science and astronomy exhibits, an IMAX theater, and a gift shop full of geeky gifts.
- Area 51 - Dance and social club. 4 - 5 blocks from conference venue.
- The Depot (music venue)
- Energy Solutions Arena.
- Abravanel (Symphony) Hall.
Outside of the Fare Free Zone
These are attractions in or close to downtown Salt Lake City. They are accessible through public transportation for a fee:
- Red Butte Garden - Open 9AM - 9PM. Admission is $10. 4.5 miles from conference venue.
- Hogle Zoo - Open 9AM - 5PM. Admission is $14.95. 4.5 miles from conference venue.
- Living Planet Aquarium - One of Salt Lake's newer attractions featuring over 2400 animals and 450+ species on exhibit. Admission 17.95, open daily from 10AM - 6PM. 17 miles from conference venue.
- This Is The Place Heritage Park - Salt Lake City has a rich pioneer heritage and this park features restored pioneer-era buildings, exhibits of crafts, tools, animal husbandry, and lots of other interesting historical artifacts. Open Mon - Sun, 9AM - 5PM. Admission is $11 Mon - Sat and $5 on Sunday. 4.5 miles from conference venue.
