I do a lot of work with Graphite, enabling developers, system administrators, and data scientists to record, retrieve, and mutate their data. In my tenure as a metric wrangler, I notice a large discrepancy between people’s expectations and the reality of a time series store like Graphite. This talk is intended to lay down a few best practices and highlight assumptions that Graphite makes so that users can get more value from their metrics. We’ll also throw in a few cool data manipulation tricks to make your pretty graphs prettier (and more meaningful!)
